There are around five deemed universities in this city. Besides this, the oldest engineering college is the Government College of Engineering. The SNDT Women’s University is exclusively for women. There are many prestigious and old institutes in Pune which includes Deccan College, Fergusson College, Agriculture College, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, and Symbiosis College. There are many other institutes in Pune dedicated to special /defense education viz Army institute of Technology, Armed Forces Medical College, National Defense Academy and Institute of Armament and Technology.

There are many engineering colleges, polytechnic colleges, IT colleges, law colleges, pharmacy colleges and medical colleges. Apart from these, various courses like interior designing, fashion designing, landscape designing, mass communication and journalism, and fine arts are also available. Both diploma and degree courses are available. Some colleges in Pune also provide you with the option of distance education courses or night schools to complete your education while working.
